I was inspired to create a monthly calendar based on fun summer activities that reflect the same a-z theme. I hope you enjoy!    Letter A Taste Test : Grab some foods that begin with letter A- Asparagus, Avocados, apples, apricots, etc. Review the five senses- How does the food taste? How does the food feel? How does the food smell? How does the food sound when you eat it? What color is the food? Bubble Wrap Painting - Use  bubble wrap and paints to make art. Feed me games are very popular these days. I recently introduced a Monster Themed Feed Me game to my 2 year old. He absolutely loved it. It’s a win- win. Your child is playing and learning at the same time. The concept is to reinforce concepts your child knows. I would not use a feed me game to introduce a new concept or lesson. In a typical game, a child either draw a card with an instruction or the instructions are verbally given. Younger children 2-4 that are not yet reading will do better with verbal instruction. Beginning readers will benefit from games that include pictorial instruction.  There is nothing like having a child or house full of children who are bored. Bored children can aggravate themselves or siblings, get buried into electronics, or find some mischief to get into. All of these things happen with my toddlers if an activity is not planned. That is why I am always planning fun activities for them to channel their energy if we cannot get outside. There has been quite a few rainy days so I had to dig into my "activity bag" for some fresh ideas. These activities were intended for ages 2-7 but big kids will also enjoy them.  Reading  There is nothing like a good book. Encourage your child to read a story to themselves, a sibling, a stuffed toy or even YOU!. There are so many benefits to reading- communication skills, vocabulary building, stretching their attention span, cognitive development and the list goes on.
