Condensed Milk Painting

Dairy seems to be all of the rage lately. There are tons of recipes and activities on the web that show some way to use milk. I came across the condensed milk painting and was immediately excited to try it out. My toddler loves to explore with his sense of taste so I am always coming up with safe ways to keep him entertained.

This particular milk painting recipe creates a shiny portrait when complete. It looks absolutely beautiful as it dries. It also dries pretty quickly as well. All you need is 1 tablespoon condensed milk and a few drops of food coloring. You do not need to worry about a ratio when measuring the milk because you cannot mess up the recipe!

2 Ingredients: Condensed milk and food coloring. That's it!!!

My little artist DJ created his masterpiece on his easel. I created this recipe twice. The first time I thought I needed to add flour to thicken the consistency. However, DO NOT DO THIS! It will not get that pretty shiny result (if that is what you're aiming for). The second time is demonstrated in the photo above.

BJ decided to paint with his feet instead of his hands. Thank goodness I did this activity before the floors were cleaned! I like using light colors since some colors such as red or blue can stain.

This recipe is completely natural and taste safe. Check out BJ testing out the condensed milk recipe. You can substitute for evaporated milk but the taste will be bitter.

50 Covid Family Friendly Ways to Honor Earth Day (Doing our part at home)

Taking Care of Our Earth Last year marked 50 years of celebrating Earth Day. Earth Day began in 1970 after Gaylord Nelson, a senator from Wisconsin, decided to organize a national “teach in” to educate people about protecting the environment. Since then, multiple environmental agencies have developed such as the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, and the Endangered Species Act. There are small things we can do at home that can make a huge impact on the planet. As a parent, I feel it's important to teach my children to care about the environment. It is our children that will inherit the Earth and they need to know their actions can make an impact- positive or negative. Below you will find things you can do as a family to help the environment. 50 Ways We Can Do Our Part At Home Turn off the faucet - This may be an obvious way to save the planet. Earth Day

Earth Day is almost upon us. In year 2020, we celebrated our 50th Earth Day. Covid could not even stop virtual events from happening globally. Once a year, people become aware of our actions and inquire about ways to help protect our environment. In fact, Earth Day can be everyday. There are small things we can do at home that can make a huge impact on the planet. As a parent, I feel it's important to teach my children to care about the environment. It is our children that will inherit the Earth and they need to know their actions can make an impact- positive or negative.   We can...

Preschool Transition Tips and Songs

What is a transition? A transition is a period where you are moving from one activity to another. Transitions can be a trying time and the hardest part of your day. But it doesn’t have to be. Transitions need to be consistent (scheduled) and as short as possible. Children often act out when they are waiting too long for the next activity to start. Minimize your transitions so that your children are not waiting longer than 5 minutes. Fill the time with a song appropriate for the activity- sing a song about food during lunch time, sing a clean up song after center time, sing a goodbye song at dismissal. Planning your transitions in advance will make your life and your child’s life a lot easier. Choose a song or phrase for each activity so your child will know what to expect. Singing the same song or playing a song for a particular activity will provide your child with stability and a sense of control. There are so many things out of a child’s control that they often resist transit...
